Today we had a wonderful day in Walsingham and really great atmosphere of prayer and friendship at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham created by Tamil pilgrims. During the day about 13,000 members of the Tamil Community visited the Our Lady's Shrine.
Some families waited for three hours in the queue to pray in the Slipper Chapel. A reporter from the Eastern Daily Press spent some time with the pilgrimage coordinator, Julian Foord, and could not believe that there were smiling faces in the queue! He spoke to families who had travelled from as far as Glasgow and Cardiff so this really was a UK pilgrimage. He said that he had never met such friendly people.
The Tamil Chaplaincy presented the shrine with a magnificent carrier for the statue of Our Lady of Walsingham. Archbishop Justin, the Bishop of Jaffna, blessed the carrier and celebrated Mass in the Shrine grounds.
Another memorable day and weekend. The Shrine Rector, Mgr John Armitage, was delighted with how everything had gone so smoothly with such large numbers over just two days and thanked the shrine staff and volunteers.
Watch the Tamil Pilgrimage Adoration and Holy Mass.
