Today I was privileged to share in a very special day at the National Shrine. With memories of last Sunday’s Grandparents’ pilgrimage and a packed Chapel of Reconciliation for Mass followed by the children’s pageant still clear in my mind, Mass today saw the Jubilarians’ pilgrimage of the Sisters of Jesus and Mary. The English Province actually includes Europe and the Middle East and there were Italian and German Jubilarians. The average age may have been high but as we chatted after a picnic lunch I was aware of a wonderful feeling of mutual love and support and a strong sense of humour, not least when we posed for photographs: “Sizzling sausages” and “More cheese please Louise” had us all laughing! The sisters were presented with a certificate to commemorate the day and the inclusion of their intentions in the next novena of Masses.
