On Saturday, 11th July, the National Shrine hosted the first Carmelite pilgrimage to Walsingham. The day began with a talk by Fr Matt Blake OCD in the Chapel of Reconciliation followed by the pilgrim Mass at midday. This was due to be celebrated by the Right Revd Philip Boyce OCD, Bishop of Raphoe. Unfortunately the bishop was indisposed and so Mass was celebrated by Fr Bob Davies OCD, Provincial Delegate, who read the bishop’s homily. What was particularly wonderful was that Carmelites across the world were able watch the Mass live thanks to the newly established streaming of the Mass. In the afternoon those present processed to the Anglican Shrine for sprinkling at the well and then went to the priory grounds for Benediction, given by Fr Michael McGaldrick OCD, the Provincial, followed by the opportunity to pray at the site of the original shrine.
