The Worldpriest Novena 2019
The Catholic National Shrine will take part in the Novena leading to the Worldpriest Annual Global Rosary Relay for the Sanctification of Priests. The Novena starts on Thursday 20th June and ends on Friday 28th June 2019 on the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
We would like to encourage everyone to pray it either on your own or together with us here at Walsingham or via our daily Holy Mass live stream. Click here to download a copy of the Novena.
The booklet has 20th June as Corpus Christi, but in England this is transferred to the following Sunday, 23rd June 2019. In England the 20th June is the memorial of St Alban - our protomartyr, who gave shelter to a stranger fleeing from persecution. This stranger was a Christian priest. Alban was so moved by the priest’s faith and courage that he asked to be taught more about Christianity, then still a forbidden religion. Before long the authorities came to arrest the fugitive priest, however Alban, inspired by his new-found faith, exchanged clothes with the priest allowing him to escape. Instead Alban was arrested and brought before the city magistrate and subsequently martyred. Although it is not the Solemnity of Corpus Christi, it is still a good day to start a Novena for priests.
